SANDRA NEWMAN was born in America but lived in England for twenty years. Her first novel, The Only Good Thing Anyone Has Ever Done, was shortlisted for the Guardian First Book Award. She is also the author of the novel Cake; the memoir Changeling; How Not to Write a Novel, an irreverent how-to guide (with Howard Mittlemark); and The Western Lit Survival Kit: How to Read the Classics Without Fear. She lives in Brooklyn, New York.
